Apple's "AirPlay" technology is distinct from Microsoft's UPnP-AV protocol which underlies the DLNA standard, therefore out of the box it is not necessarily possible to exchange media content via DLNA from a machine running Mac OS X.

Utilities are available, however, which can provide UPnP-AV (DLNA) capability on Macs. One such utility is Elgato's EyeConnect application. EyeConnect is free to use for 30 days after which time it must be purchased.

Once installed, EyeConnect adds an icon the System Preferences pane:

When launched for the first time, you may be prompted to allow incoming connections to the application on the Mac firewall if it is enabled:

On the Content tab you can select which media folders on the Mac you wish to share:

Start EyeConnect and you're ready to go. On the Desire HD or the Desire Z, launch the Connected Media application:

Select Photos if you wish to browse the images on your Mac, and move across to the Connected Media tab:

EyeConnect will be listed as shown above, select the entry to browse your Mac's photo library:

Similarly your iTunes library can also be streamed to your Android device, select Music in the Connected Media application, select the Connected Media tab and choose the EyeConnect entry, your iTunes library will be listed:
