When powering on the PlayBook initially for the first time, or following a hard reset, you will be prompted to run through a short setup wizard.
The wizard is navigated through by swiping the screen right to left. The first step following the introductory splash screen shown above, is to setup a WiFi network connection:

The PlayBook will search for and display a list of those wireless networks it can detect, to connect to your preferred network tap on its entry. If secured, you will be prompted to enter the passkey for the connection:

You will be notified once the connection has been established successfully:

Swipe to the left to continue. You will next be prompted to configure the date, time and time zone the device should use:

Once complete, swipe to the left to continue. You will next be prompted to accept the terms and conditions of the BlackBerry ID agreement:

and then to enter the email address and password of the BlackBerry ID account you want to use on the PlayBook:

The device will now check for any available software updates. If updates are available you will be prompted to install them:

You will then be prompted to configure a BlackBerry Bridge connection via Bluetooth to a BlackBerry Smartphone. I have detailed this procedure in a separate article.

You can skip this step by swiping to the left. You will then be presented with a short interactive demo on how to control the tablet via gestures:

When complete, tap Done and you will be taken to the device home screen.

You are now ready to start using your PlayBook.
