The ES400 is Motorola’s pocket-sized ruggedized EDA running Windows Mobile 6.5.3: a robust mobile computer in a consumer style form factor.
Designed for big business, this fully-featured device is competitively-priced bringing true Enterprise-grade functionality within reach of the SMB.
Ergonomically shaped and featuring an intuitive and customisable user interface, the ES400 has been conceived to provide the user with quick and easy access to data and applications whilst ensuring efficient and consistent usage at all times and in all conditions.
With the ES400, field service workers can carry the equivalent of an office-in-a-pocket, all in a small and compact consumer-style device. In addition to voice calls, email and text messaging, users can access back end corporate applications - from order entry to work order management, collect signatures for Proof of Delivery / Proof of Service, and capture and transmit colour photos that can be annotated with text and voice comments, taking the value of multimedia data to the next level.
Visit the File Library for case studies on how the ES400 might fit your business.

For a full list of device specifications, read this article - http://blog.brightpointuk.co.uk/motorola-es400-technical-specifications
The ES400 includes all of the hardware and functionality required for a wide range of enterprise usage scenarios, including:
The ES400 features Motorola’s own Enterprise User Interface designed to provide users with the ability to customise the standard look and feel of the device to suit their personal workflow and maximising on-the-job efficiency.

A number of interchangeable tiles are present on the home screen as well as an application quick launcher, providing one-touch access to commonly accessed applications and data locations, be it email, text messages, contacts, recent call history, calendar, tasks, voicemail, or any shortcuts of your own.
Within each application, the quick launch bar running across the bottom of the screen provides additional, appropriate shortcuts enabling you to quickly and intuitively jump between logically adjacent data locations at the touch of a button without the need to back out of one application and access the next from the Start menu. In other words, when in the Phone application you can jump to the Contacts list or the Messages application:
This functionality is included throughout the operating system and can be customised to fit user requirements providing huge enhancements in efficiency and usability.
A number of pre-built “themes” are included offering at-a-glance access to messaging and call information as well as weather updates:
Running Windows Mobile 6.5.3, the Motorola ES400 features all of the Microsoft applications you would expect to find on the platform, including Office 2010 Mobile and Internet Explorer Mobile. Exchange ActiveSync support is included, enabling push-based bi-directional synchronisation of mailbox data with Microsoft Exchange server, as well as support for Microsoft’s Office Communicator and Windows Live services.

Featuring dual radios, the ES400 offers both high-speed GSM and CDMA technologies meaning that the unit can be used virtually anywhere in the world on any mobile network. Both radios can be enabled simultaneously and switched between at the touch of a button, ensuring that users are always able to connect to the strongest signal available regardless of their physical location.
The integrated WiFi capability supports IEEE 802.11 a, b and g protocols offering wireless data rates of up to 54 Mbps and supporting advanced industry standard authentication and encryption mechanisms.
Motorola’s own wireless client manager allows for the configuration of multiple wireless network profiles as well as automatic network scanning and notification:

Incorporating Bluetooth and USB connectivity as well, the ES400 should fit almost all usage scenarios.
The ES400 features an integrated fingerprint reader providing biometric security protection ensuring that only authorised users are able to access and use the device.
Incorporating built-in GPS, the ES400 supports both Assisted and Autonomous modes as well as signal lock-in ensuring that an optimised signal is received even in areas where signal is normally weak, such as urban canyons and indoors.
The ES400’s integrated barcode scanner supports both 1D and 2D barcode images, and the device flash can be controlled as light source to ensure optimal image scanning.

The 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera can be used to capture both still images as well as high-quality video and signatures.
Both camera and barcode scanner output can be integrated into custom applications for remote uploading to back end line of business systems.
The ES400 conforms to a number of military and IEC standard drop specifications ensuring that the device will continue to run reliably even in the face of accidental dropping and unforgiving users! The ES400 withstands single impacts of 4ft (1.22 metre) drops and 300 consecutive 1.6ft (0.5 metre) hits as well as exposure to dust, moisture and rain.
When you combine this ruggedized, high standard build quality with Motorola’s commitment to a minimum 3-year lifecycle for the ES400, your device fleet’s lifespan can be measured in years rather than months.
The ES400 also features a preinstalled device management client for use with Motorola’s Mobility Services Platform (MSP), a server-based behind-the-firewall device management solution offering remote application installation, hardware usage control, inventory collection and remote support functionality. For more information on MSP visit the http://www.motorola.com/mspsoftware
Running the Windows Mobile operating system, the ES400 can also naturally be managed from any device management solution that supports the platform, including Sybase Afaria and Soti MobiControl – visit the device management section of the Blog for more information - http://blog.brightpointuk.co.uk/device-management
The Motorola ES400 product incorporates a ruggedized PDA that will offer return on investment both in terms of physical durability and product lifespan, running best-in-class hardware optimised for all usage scenarios on a truly global basis. The Windows Mobile operating system provides built-in integration with Microsoft server-based products, including Exchange ActiveSync, as well as the ability to view and edit Office documents using Office Mobile 2010.
The ergonomic styling and intuitive user interface will ensure consistent and efficient user interaction, and the wide range of applications available for the Windows Mobile platform combined with the wide range of connectivity and peripheral options available on the device mean that the ES400 is as powerful and versatile as you need it to be.
