Besides the announcements of the Desire Z and the Desire HD, HTC have also announced a new web-based service which when launched next month will be available at htcsense.com
The service will offer remote phone location capability: ie if you've misplaced your phone and think it's in the house or office somewhere, you can log into the web site and make the phone ring loudly (provided that it's turned on and registered with the mobile network).
If you're not sure where the phone is, you can locate it on a map via the web interface using the device's built-in GPS capability.
If you can't find your phone, or you know where it is but can't retrieve it, you can also remotely wipe all data from the device remotely, or can lock it by specifying a password via the web site. You can optionally also enter a message that should be displayed on the device screen, potentially with contact information:

The web site also automatically backs up your text messages sent and received on the device, and also enables you to send new text messages directly from the web site without the need to touch your device (Note - these messages are still sent from your account and are still charged accordingly).

Contacts can similarly be backed up from your device and managed via the web interface:

HTC's Footprints application can also be managed via the web interface, enabling you to enter details of places you have visited or want to visit:

New themes, colour schemes and ring tones can also be downloaded from the web site and applied to your device:

HTCSense.com will be launched next month.
