Huawei Logo

Back in July I was fortunate enough to be handed a prototype release of the E5832 (http://blog.brightpointuk.co.uk/introducing-huawei-e5832-wireless-modem-...) and I looked at the Mobile Partner software that accompanied it.

For the uninitiated, the Huawei E5832 is also known as the iMo, a battery-powered 3G wireless router: their answer to the Novatel MiFi.

Taking a SIM card and providing 3G data service at up to 7.2Mbps, the device is also a WiFi access point, meaning that you can share the 3G connection between multiple WiFi enabled clients and measures only 93mm x 48mm!
Featuring a microSD card slot it can also be used as a USB file store.
When connected to a PC via the supplied USB cable, it can also be used as a USB 3G dongle modem.

For details on how to use the device as a USB modem with MacOS, read this article - http://blog.brightpointuk.co.uk/installing-huawei-e5832-imo-usb-3g-modem...

For details on how to use the device as a USB modem with Windows, read this article - http://blog.brightpointuk.co.uk/installing-huawei-e5832-imo-usb-3g-modem...

Key Features

  • Flexible WiFi Hotspot
  • WiFi 802.11 b/g
  • HSUPA/HSDPA/UMTS 2100/900 MHz
  • EDGE/GPRS/GSM 1900/1800/900/850 MHz
  • Equalizer and receive diversity (UMTS 2100/900 MHz)
  • HSUPA data service of up to 5.76 Mbps
  • HSDPA data service of up to 7.2 Mbps
  • MicroSD card slot
  • Li battery
  • LED display
  • Plug and play
  • SMS service

The only difference between the E5832 and the E5830 is the frequency available for 3G usage: the E5830 is 2100MHz only.

I've now been given another unit which can be configured wirelessly using its built-in web server, particularly useful for non Windows-based platforms including Mac and Linux.

Configuration

Insert the SIM into the unit and power it on by pressing the on/off button the side. Activate the wireless functionality by pressing the WiFi button.

After a few moments the device will be listed in your available wireless networks:

NOTE - the device may also be listed as E583x. If the device prompts you for a key, this can be found on the device itself under the battery.

Connect to the wireless network. By default the iMo is configured with an IP address of 192.168.1.1 and to assign addresses to clients automatically via DHCP. Open a web browser and enter in the address of the iMo, the following will be displayed:

Huawei E5832 on 192.168.1.1

Hi there.

I have done all the procedure ok but when I reach the modem setup site (192.168.1.1) and I want to insert the password, which is supposed to be "admin", the page will only returm "wrong password"

I've tried with a sim on the mifi and without it... I dont know what else to do. I'm stucked... :(

Please what could I do to enter to the modem settings?

Thanks

Admin

Hello, if you are not able to enter the default password, you can reset the unit back to factory settings by pressing and holding the WiFi/WPS buttons together for 5 seconds. This will restore the unit back to default settings and you can re-try entering the password.

Thank you very much for your

Thank you very much for your quick reply and sorry to bother again.

I have restored original settings already but the situation is the same: "wrong password"

Shall I do this with a sim card or without it? I've done both anyways... :( However, when I do it with a sim on, I get the following message on top of the page:
"SIM card has been locked by PIN or PUK code, please login and validate PIN or PUK code. After a succeessful, close your browser and open a new one to visit Internet."
and when I do it without sim I dont get it.
I don't know if anytime I shall have entered a pin or puk code and I didnt....

I think the flrmware update was done ok, otherwise I wouldn't get the huawei site wen I access to the modem settings, I would have the operator one I had before, right? I don't know if doing the firmware update again will work ¿? Or I might do it even worst :(

Admin

If you receive a message indicating that the SIM has been locked with a code, it sounds like a PIN has been entered. If you put the SIM into a mobile phone are you prompted for a PIN code? If not, then it sounds like the E5832 is not reading the SIM properly. If you are prompted for a PIN be careful as if you enter the PIN incorrectly too many times the SIM will be locked and you will need to get a PUK code from the operator to unlock it.
If you purchased the E5832 from BrightPoint in the UK, let us have the IMEI number and we can arrange to get the unit returned for testing.

So then (and to try for the

So then (and to try for the last time) the modem settings on 192.168.1.1. shall be done with the sim on or it doesnt matter?

Thanks

Admin

The unit can be configured with or without a SIM inserted.

Thanks, same thing I cant

Thanks, same thing I cant fix.

Thanks for your help.

E5832S VPN settings

Hi,

How do I set up on this E5832S modem for a VPN profile setting?

Admin

Hello, can you provide more information as to what you would like to be able to do? If you purchased the unit from BrightPoint GB you may email support@brightpoint.co.uk

Forgot web management PW totally

I have Huawei E5 but I totally forgot the password and could no longer add devices because of this, how do I go about retrieving, if not, resetting this to gain access to the web management page (http://192.168.1.1)? Appreciate any help I can get please.

Thank you in anticipation...

Admin

Hello, if the unit was purchased through Brightpoint please email the details to support@brightpoint.co.uk and we can hopefully get the default key from Huawei for you

I also forgot PW and unit wont start.

im using HUawei E5232, the moment ago i turned my MIFI connected to my laptop. and suddenly my computer wont detect it anymore...
I've purchased my unit from Globe here in philippines... what would i do?..
please help me...please..

Admin

Hello. Do you have another computer you can connect the Huawei unit to? If another PC also fails to detect the unit then it may have developed a fault.

help

hallo, just had this device today, and when surfing the web, i am only having the mobile version. how can enable the desktop version? by the way does anyone knows how to enable the "website setting" in the setting. help will be much appreciated .thanks :)

Admin

It sounds like the web server the site is hosted on is detecting that you are connecting from a mobile device. There is no setting in the Huawei unit to control this, you could try browsing directly to the URL of the desktop version of the site in your browser, also verify that your connection settings are for 'Internet' data rather than WAP.

Balance on MTN Data card

How can I check the remaining data balance on my data card once it is installed in the E5832 wireless modem?

how do i get huawei original interface as above?

Hello,
i have problem here... i am using e5832 but the interface is not original from huawei... it is from my telco MAXIS... where do i get the software/firmware/etc to update my web interface as above because i cant configure new profile setting for my other telco sim card because it cannot be edited.. thnaks for advance...

Admin

Hello. If you unit is a network-locked device, you will need to contact your operator for any firmware updates as they will be using a customised software version. The software available here is only for network-unlocked devices.
